Building chosen as a great example of a high street building. 151 Aldgate High street, built in 1928 I feel is a fantastic example of a high street building for the dignified and bold presence it has when dealing with a hugely complicated and ever changing environment.

The monolithic construction means the weightiness and presence of mass of material is very apparent, giving rise to a sense of strength and longevity which keeps the buildings composure.

The monolithic construction becomes more apparent when you have to walk through the 1200mm thick walls into the cafe. This transition into the buildings mass creates a spatial and material affect which not only talks to our senses about the weight and tacit qualities of masonry, but allows an intellectual insight into the type of building structure to deal with such an environment.
